What's Been Going On

How many times can one person start a blog post with the phrase “Sorry it’s been so long since I’ve posted...?”1

Yeah, yeah.

Things have been quite exciting since I last updated y’all on the goings on here at The Dragon’s Roost. As most of you know, the end of the year is typically a very busy time, starting around October. When you’re a horror fanatic, the year really starts
2 with the lead in to Halloween. This year’s display was slightly smaller than originally planned. I was going to go with an evil circus theme, but given all of the clown sitings I decided to scrap that idea. I am still very happy with how things turned out. Check out my Facebook account for the pictures.

This year’s
GLAHW’s Monster Mash For Literacy Bash was a success. I’m pretty sure that there are pictures from that on The Facebooks as well. The Mrs and I both riffed on the same pun -- The Devil in the Details. My look was classic horned devil in a tailcoat covered with old English D’s.3 In typical horror fan fashion, we’ve already started planning for next year’s event -- the big 10th anniversary of the group.

Speaking of planning, I’ve already started booking appearances for 2017. I’ll be speaking at a number of conventions and vending at a couple more. Some of these include places I’ve never been to, so that’s both exciting and scary.

All of which is a nice segue into what I
have been doing instead of blogging. I haven’t done a lot of writing lately, but there has been a lot of writing adjacent work going on. Dragon’s Roost Press will be publishing a number of books over the next few weeks including a pair of books by Mary Lynne Gibbs, an anthology of horror fiction by Peggy Christie, and an adults only horror collection by Ken MacGregor.5

There has been some exciting news on the writing front, tho. Next year promises to have a number of fun projects including a pair of Steampunk themed books which I hope to participate in, a couple of anthology projects, and a bit of fiction for an upcoming RPG. There is also a rumor about a new DRP anthology next year.

Let’s see, what else happened? There was an election.
6 Thanksgiving was nice. I had a little medical scare -- a blood clot, but not the kind which can make your heart explode.

All in all, it has been a wonderful couple of months. I hope that you all enjoyed Halloween and are looking forward to whatever end of the year holiday(s) you share with your friends and family.

5. I’ve spent so much time with InDesign that I’m starting to measure distance in pica.
6. The less said about that the better.
