Mayan Gods in Jazz Age Mexico

I should start off by stating that I am a big fan of authors who can include myths and legends which they are familiar with in their writing. I also enjoy learning about cultures which I am not familiar with. In other words, I was kind of predestined to enjoy Gods of Jade and Shadow.

Silvia Moreno-Garcia has taken gods from Mayan legends and placed them in Mexico in the Jazz Age. That alone should make you want to go on this journey. Casiopea Tun, poor relation of a well to do family, accidentally releases Hun-kame the god of death. She is bound to him and joins him on a journey to reclaim his missing body parts so he can challenge his brother who stole his throne.

Adventure with romantic overtones, Gods of Jade and Shadow was a great read. This is the kind of book that made me immediately add all of the author's other books to my TBR list.
